Teddy bear Picnic!

(download)
We had a teddy bear picnic today at school and I thought we needed a special little treat. I made this panda bear out of brownie and covered it with powdered sugar to make the white fur. The kids went crazy over it. We had a blast. We even acted out Goldilocks and the three bears.

What a mess!

When I cook, I somehow manage to get food all over myself. From my head to my toes, I get dirty. I hate it when my hands are dirty when I'm cooking so I end up going through 5-10 paper towels. I have recently made the obvious observation that I need an apron. I would love to make my own, but then again, I would like it to look nice and be functional. So maybe one of these days I will get the money to buy some fabric, and the ambition to take on another project. I love these fabrics and designs shown above. These lovely aprons (and so much more) can be found on Etsy.com.

yum, yum, yum!

It was a long day, and I just needed to relieve some stress. Over the last six months or so I have been really enjoyed baking, and it is my way to unwind. I don't have much in the pantry right now, so I got creative. I had a bunch of apples that were a little too ripe to eat by themselves, and two boxes of bisquick. So I caramelized the apples adding some cinnamon and nutmeg. Then I mixed up the bisquick with a little sugar, oil, and water to make the dough. I filled the dough with the apple mixture and coated the  outside with sugar. It was delicious, but I don't know what to call it? It is kind of like a turnover, but instead of a pastry shell its a biscuit/shortcake. Any good ideas on what to call it?

Green thumb, or Black thumb?

I am attempting to grow some plants. I started out with bell peppers, jalepeno peppers, chives, and oregano. I'm sad to say that the oregano has already bitten the dust. It sprouted, but didn't grow any more, and now is dead. The chives are looking pretty bleak as well. The peppers didn't sprout for weeks, but they are now about an inch and a half tall. I'm hoping this project will have a happy ending, but my verdict for now is BLACK THUMB.

Fun kitchen project!

I love being able to repurpose things. When I was registering for wedding gifts I really wanted a nice kitchen cart. Much to my amazement they cost about $120-400 for a nice one. I quickly got over the desire and moved on. When I saw this diy project on design*sponge it rekindled the fire! I'm not sure how much money this would save if you had to buy the file cabinet, but if you have one laying around it could be a big money saver.
